5 Salt Lake City Dog Events You Can’t Miss in 2022

This sponsored post is brought to you in partnership with the Humane Society of Utah.

May starts the beginning of what we lovingly refer to as “dog season” in Utah. The weather has warmed up and dog events return in full force to Salt Lake City. Whether you’re looking to make new friends, give your pup a new experience, or simply be around other dog lovers, here are 5 dog events you can’t miss in Salt Lake City in 2022.

Bark At the Moon

Hosted by the Humane Society of Utah, Bark at the Moon is an annual fundraiser and celebration of all things dog. Held at The Gateway on May 21 from 4 to 8pm, the fourth annual rendition of this event will be the social event of the season! The Gateway’s dog friendly atmosphere features plenty of public art photo ops, dog friendly shops, and plenty of space for on leash exploring.  Vendor alley will feature local dog businesses ranging from trainers to treats to photographers and more. Don’t forget to make new friends as you eat and drink your way through a variety of food trucks and local craft beer! Too much time in the sun? Not a problem- your pup will also be able to cool off with a romp in The Gateway’s splash pad. The evening will culminate in a group walk at 8pm to celebrate another successful Bark at the Moon. Tickets are $20 each and benefit the Humane Society of Utah.

Yappy Hour

Happy hour has gone to the dogs! Yappy Hour, hosted by Salt Lake City and the Gallivan Events team, is a social event held at various city parks throughout the summer and is a great way to celebrate the local dog community. In 2022 these events will take place on June 14 (Liberty Park), July 14 (Fairmont Park), August 9 (Pioneer Park), and September 8 (Liberty Park). Dog lovers can expect a wide variety of dog-centric vendors, food trucks, activities, live music, and, of course, local beer. The team behind Yappy Hour also ensures that about half of the event space is dedicated to off-leash play for the pups! Admission is free and attendees are welcome to come and go as they please. Visit our events page for more details on Yappy Hour 2022.

Dog Walk Wednesdays at Ashton Gardens

Nothing elevates your daily walk quite like 50 acres of exquisite gardens and, thankfully, Ashton Gardens at Thanksgiving Point is bringing back Dog Walk Wednesdays! For the third year in a row you and your pup can enjoy a stroll through this Lehi gem every Wednesday this summer. Your dog’s admission is complimentary with the purchase of a day ticket. For the safety of everyone, all dogs must remain on leash. Ashton Gardens has thoughtfully placed water bowls throughout the garden for refreshment. Dog Walk Wednesdays begin June 1 and run through October 12. There’s no doubt your dog will thank you for the change of scenery! Puppy Pool Parties

Perhaps the best end of summer tradition in Salt Lake City, puppy pool parties typically pop up along the Wasatch front just after Labor Day. In a final hurrah to the dog days of summer, local pools offer up their swimming spots for a day of fun after they have closed to the public. Dogs are separated into groups by size and time to ensure that everyone can have an enjoyable time. While dates are not usually set until July or August, dog lovers can typically expect to see South Davis, Alta Canyon, Kearns Oquirrh, Clearfield, and Provo Rec Centers host a day or two. Liberty Park Pool skipped a dog day in 2021 but we are crossing fingers and paws that it will return in 2022. Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to ensure you don’t miss the announcements!

Dog Days in the Maze

Wheeler Farm is well known for their elaborate and well planned dog events- Dog Days in the Maze is no exception! Kick off your fall with this harvest and Halloween inspired event for the pups. Dogs and their humans can look forward to trick or treating with local vendors, a straw maze, wagon rides, and, of course, sniffing all the cute farm animals. This year’s Dog Days in the Maze at Wheeler Historic Farm will take place on Monday, October 24 from 5 to 8pm. Tickets will go on sale September 23 and typically sell out within an hour. Costumes are encouraged but not required for the event!
